NASW-CA Legislative Lobby Days
March 11,12, and 13, 2017
Legislative Lobby Days (Lobby Days) is a two-day event sponsored by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Each year, the NASW selects bills that advance social justice and many of the California Schools of Social Work go to the Capitol in Sacramento to advocate. They have several positions available, such as team leader and general attendee, that enable you to have a face-to-face appointment with your local legislator or aide. The program generally consists of a day of training and then a day of advocacy. It is open to all students, staff and faculty.
Attending Lobby Days provides the opportunity for you as future social workers to be the voice for the oppressed and marginalized, who may not have a voice in the system we have today. This event symbolizes our role in promoting the 6 core values of Social Work--especially social justice-- and is fun and rewarding! We want to represent the people we serve everyday, so let's aim to have a larger presence in Sacramento this year!
There was an incredible show of school spirit last year with more than 50 students in attendance! We have demonstrated that we are not afraid to enter the political arena to advocate for our clients, and that, as social workers, it is necessary. SWSA gives a HUGE thank you to all who participated in organizing and coordinating, planning, and showing support.
