Vice President I am a first year Tuesday/Thursday full-time student. As Vice President for SWSA, my intention is to assist in creating cohesion among students by applying our life and field experiences into the work we do within our community. This can be accomplished by working together to better our community utilizing the knowledge we acquire from the program, as we strive to learn from one another to become better each day. It is my belief that we all share a common thread that has brought us to the field of social work, in which our objective is to advocate for others until they are empowered enough to advocate for themselves. |
Jose "Luis" Murillo
Vice President
I am part of the first year Tuesday-Thursday part-time cohort. I ran for SWSA Vice President to create a more distinctive and harmonious group of Masters of Social Work students. I strongly believe that SWSA was in need of some changes that all students would benefit from and this is the time to do the right thing and make them happen. As Vice President I will ensure, along with the rest of the board members, that what is planned and said will be done and will not turn into empty promises. Every year, SWSA has a combination of new incoming students and returning students who often find themselves confused about what is expected from them in the MSW program, and in need of guidance. I believe that individuals such as myself can shine some light on difficult situations that MSW students often face when starting this program, and continue mentoring as the year’s progress until graduation and beyond. I will do my best to fulfill this mentoring role and not disappoint my colleagues. I thank you in advance for the opportunity to serve as your Vice President. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you at a personal level.

Vice President Email: [email protected] I became the Vice President for SWSA because I was already actively involved in SWSA the past year. I worked with SWSA’s Community Service group and had established the relationship with the Community Bible Church to make burritos and hand deliver them to the day laborers at Home Depot. I participated in the human trafficking walk for CASE and I currently volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. I have voluntarily attended events that the school has offered such as the Title IV-E conference, Lobby Days and I attended this past summer’s trip to Panama to expand my social work skills internationally and learn more about macro social work. I am also very big on networking and am a member of the County of San Bernardino’s LGBT Subcommittee, the Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) subcommittee, Independent Living Program (ILP) committee and the Coalition against Sexual Exploitation (CASE) committee. As Vice President of SWSA I would like to find out from the students how to make SWSA better and get students more involved in the meetings, activities and community service. I would also like to build and strengthen the relationship between cohorts. Click here to read about our Secretaries. |
